Upon completing his undergraduate program for a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Will Carbonara was the recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, one of a limited number of grants for the entire United States. That was the crowning moment for his undergraduate career, a time when he maintained a 3.955 grade point average and graduated summa cum laude.
Because of his efforts in the classroom, he was National Dean’s List, he was Verizon Academic All-America, and he was a member of several honorary scholastic organizations such as Alpha Chi, and he received multiple scholarships such as The Texas Society of CPA’s Outstanding Accounting Student award. He then earned a UIW master’s degree in business administration while compiling a 3.94 GPA.
On the baseball field, Will, in his senior year 2002, raised the Incarnate Word bar when he set a school record with a batting average of .460. That mark got his career average to .395 which remains second all-time at UIW. That same season he was the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Player of the Year.
In the Heartland Conference, he was on the academic President’s Honor Roll two years and he was the league’s hitter of the week. He was voted All-Heartland Conference. That .460 batting average was a Heartland record also.
After completing his eligibility at Incarnate Word he signed a professional contract with the Baltimore Orioles and in the Gulf Coast Rookie League led his team in runs, home runs, doubles and RBI.
Currently Will lives in his hometown of Cuero, Texas, where he is an account executive with JHC Insurance Agency. In Cuero he has been a director and treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce, he is a director of the Cuero Development Corporation and is a director for the DeWitt County Historical Commission. He is a Rotarian, a Lion and a youth leader at St. Michael’s Church.
