During her time at Incarnate Word, Jenny played four years of basketball and two years of tennis. Over her senior year of 1998-1999, she received more significant honors and awards than any female athlete in the history of the University.

Among the many, she was the first-ever basketball player to be named NAIA All-America, she was the most valuable player in the Heart of Texas Conference, and, she was GTE Academic All-District. In 1998 she was NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete. She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration (sports management) in 1999 magna cum laude. She was the business school's Top Management Student. And she was the UIW student-athlete of the year.

Since 2000, she has worked for San Antonio Sports in a role specific to overseeing the local organizing committees for numerous NCAA Final Fours and other national sporting events. Currently, she is the President & CEO of the organization.

She was named San Antonio Business Journal’s 40 under 40 in 2007 and was inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame in 2010. Carnes is also a member of Leadership San Antonio, Class XL and is an active member of Madison Square Presbyterian Church.
