HECTOR DELGADILLO

CLASS OF 2010

When his time at Incarnate Word was finished Hector Delgadillo left the Cardinals baseball program owning the record book for pitching.  At his UIW Athletic Hall of Fame induction, five years later, those records still were there.

Most wins in a career belong to Delgadillo as do most complete games, complete games in a single season, most innings pitched, and most strikeouts for a career.  Over his four years of competition Incarnate Word was a cumulative 137-87 reaching the NCAA Division II regional tournament once and winning one Heartland Conference title.

For all his efforts on the mound, Delgadillo was ABCA all-region, Heartland pitcher of the year, and Heartland freshman of the year.  Five times he was Heartland pitcher of the week.

After his four years at UIW, he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays.  He played two years of minor league baseball in that organization.  He posted a mark of 11-6 over those two seasons striking out 96 in 121 innings pitched.

When his professional time was done he returned to UIW to complete his bachelor’s degree and then to earn a master’s degree, both in kinesiology.  His first job assignment was at his alma mater South San Antonio High School where he teaches and coaches baseball.

Delgadillo has been a coach with the Lights Out Baseball Academy and for the not-for-profit US9 Armed Forces Baseball program which provides games for active duty, reserve, and National Guard personnel.  He also has been a volunteer in the Project Measure Up program which is a Texas state-mandated FitnessGram to assess students in grades 3 to 12.
