As a basketball player at Incarnate Word, Randy, as a senior, was NAIA All-America, and was NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete as well as GTE Academic All-America.  He also was the NAIA District VI Player of the Year in 1993.  He was the leading scorer, field goal percentage shooter and shot-blocker for the 1992-1993 team, the first from UIW to reach the NAIA national tournament.  In 1993, he received his UIW degree in business administration (accounting) as a Magna Cum Laude graduate.  He was the accounting student of the year.

He began his teaching and coaching career in 1995 and since 2003 has been in the Port Aransas, Texas, Independent School District.  Currently, he teaches mathematics there while working as the head girl’s basketball coach. For the 2004-2005 season, his team was 32-5, qualified for the region tournament and he was the district coach of the year.
