CHRISTIE POWELL

CLASS OF 2010

Christie Powell was an achiever at Incarnate Word, in the classroom and on the soccer pitch, and that enthusiasm has not abated since leaving the UIW campus with her bachelor’s degree in biology with a chemistry minor in 1996.

She is co-owner of CATZ Sports Performance and director of physical therapy at CATZ Physical Therapy in Austin where she works with youth and adult athletes alike.  Additionally she works with Austin area physicians offering free injury assessments and injury prevention seminars.  Prior to joining CATZ she was the founder, owner, and physical therapist of Champion Performance Physical Therapy in Austin.

In Austin she created Autism for TAP (Texas Autism Project) fitness program for children 7 to 10-years-old studying behavioral changes pre- and post-exercise.  In the July, 2010, edition of Austin’s FIT MAGAZINE, she was listed as one of that city’s best body docs.

She is a licensed physical therapist and is a certified strength training specialist.  She is a member of both the Texas and American physical therapy associations.

After graduating from UIW cum laude, she earned a master’s degree and now is working for her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin.  Her academic honors at UIW included being a three-time NAIA Academic Scholar-Athlete as well as GTE Academic All-District.

On the field she achieved NAIA All-American status in 1996 ending a four-year period when Incarnate Word was a cumulative 58-15-8 reaching the regional tournament twice and the NAIA national tournament once.

She has kept her hand in soccer by working with the Lone Star Soccer Club and as a girl’s coach at the Developmental Academy in Austin.  Her coaching days have included time with a Division I team in the Austin Women’s Soccer League.
