MELINDA MCCLURE TOOLE

Melinda McClure was a star on the women’s soccer team between the years of 1991 and 1994.  During her time on campus it was Incarnate Word College and the teams were the Crusaders.

Cumulative in her four years the team was 47-17-3 and a perfect 23-0-0 in conference play.

Her year in particular was 1994 when she was All-America by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the NAIA.  That fall she was the Adidas National Player of the Year as the Crusaders won their fourth straight conference title.  She was NAIA All-Region, the Heart of Texas Conference MVP and she played in the UMBRO Senior Soccer Bowl.

Her career numbers on the pitch are still remarkable.  Despite having played 20 years ago she remains number two all-time with 161 points, 2.48 points a game, 69 goals, and 1.06 goals per game.  Career-wise she is fourth with 23 assists.

For a single season she remains second in assists (12 in 1994), fourth in points per game (2.78 in 1994) and goals per game (1.27 in 1991).  She is fifth in both points (50 in 1994) and goals (19 in both 1991 and 1994).

After graduating in 1996 with a bachelor’s in nursing she worked as a staff nurse at San Antonio’s University Hospital and at St. Luke’s Hospital.  She now holds a nursing license in California where she and husband US Navy Captain Theron Toole and their son reside.

Never far from soccer, Melinda has been a coach, referee, fund-raising coordinator, team manager, treasurer and even a coaches’ assistant.  In 2015 she was recognized in the Exaltfit “Athlete Spotlight of the Day” for her work in fitness and nutrition on social media.
