Melina Merritt

This week’s UIW Female Athlete of the Week is women’s basketball point guard Melina Merritt. She led the Cardinals to their first win of the season, 96-59 in the home opener against LSU- Alexandria this past Friday. Merritt is now in the running for UIW Female Athlete of the Year, which is voted on by the UIW sports administration and coaches.

Merritt recorded her first career double-double with 21 points and 10 assists in the win. She was 6-of-10 from the field while knocking down both of her three-point attempts and all seven free throws.  She chipped in with six rebounds.

Merritt is a sophomore business administration major from Round Rock, TX.
