DAVID MOORE
Incarnate Word’s swimming team dove in with the big timers at the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame Invitational and David Moore got to know a long list of new persons. For his efforts he is the UIW male athlete of the week for December 1 to December 7.
He is now eligible for male athlete of the year when next spring UIW coaches and athletic administrators vote for that award.
At the meet in Austin entries were from a range of Division I schools including the universities of Hawaii, Southern Cal, Arizona, Brigham Young, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Harvard to name a few. These are the top programs in the nation and Moore got right in amongst them by entering seven events.
He achieved a pair of “B” cut times. If UIW were not in a transitional year into Division I these times would put him on the alternates list for the national championships. He swam 1:47.69 in the 200-IM for the “B” list and his best finish of the meet was seventh in the 400-IM when he recorded a 3:55.27.
Over in the butterfly events his second “B” cut time was in the 200 where he touched in 1:47.97. In the 100-butterfly his time was 49:87 in the preliminaries.
Continuing to show his versatility, Moore posted a 57.71 in the 100-breaststroke. He used that stroke to swim second on two UIW relay teams. The Cardinals were 14th in the 200-medley with 1:31.70 and 17th in the 400-medley with a 3:22.44.
Moore is a sophomore out of San Antonio’s Marshall High School. He is studying marketing at Incarnate Word.
