Consistent and relentless play on the field against Sam Houston State is why Myke Tavarres is this week’s UIW Male Athlete of the Week. He is now eligible for the UIW Male Athlete of the Year award that is voted upon by UIW administrators and coaches.

Tavarres continued to battle on the field, regardless of the score against the Bearkats. He set a school record with 17 tackles, 14 being solo stops.  He tied the school record with three sacks and finished with four tackles for loss in the game.  He now leads all of FCS with 14.0 tackles for loss on the season and he leads the Southland Conference with 5.0 sacks.
 
Tavarres is a senior communication arts major from Lake Oswego, OR.  He transferred to UIW prior to last year from Arkansas and was a member of the UIW track and field team last spring.
