Aricka Adams may not necessarily have saved the day for the basketball Cardinals in the week’s lone game but she certainly was a factor.  So she is the female athlete of the week for the time January 12 to January 18.
 
With the Cardinals holding a dominant lead in the mid-to-late second half, Southeastern Louisiana cut the lead down to just seven.  With a minute remaining Adams stepped to the line and calmly made seven of eight free throws and UIW prevailed.  Those were the only points to go on Incarnate Word’s side of the scoreboard in the final 60 seconds.
 
For the night she finished with a team high 23 points on 7-14 shooting including 2-4 from three-point range.  Totally she was 7-9 at the stripe.
 
Her other numbers were eight rebounds, a team high six assists and one steal.
 
Adams is a 5-5 junior guard out of Round Rock High School.  She is studying criminal justice at UIW.  She now will be on the year-end ballot when Cardinals coaches and athletic administrators select a female athlete of the year.
