RAINY CASTANADA

Rainy Castanada was the first UIW runner across the line at the year’s first cross country meet.  And she is the first to be named female athlete of the week at Incarnate Word.

The Cardinals hosted the Alamo City Opener.  In the 4,000-meter competition for Division I schools, UIW finished first as a team topped by Castanada.

In leading Incarnate Word, she toured the course in 15:02.39 and that was good enough for second place overall.  That time was less than six seconds behind the winning time.

Castanada is a junior from Laredo’s United South High School.

Most weeks during the year a male athlete of the week is selected.  At the end of the spring semester all those named are on the ballot for male athlete of the year as selected by UIW coaches and athletic administrators.
