University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

ALEX DE LA GARZA
 
It was a one-game week for the men’s soccer Cardinals so Alex de la Garza marshaled his energy and earned Incarnate Word male athlete of the week for October 6 through October 12.
 
He will be on the ballot in May as UIW coaches and athletic administrators name the male athlete of the year.
 
The game was at Houston Baptist and it was a Southland Conference affair.  A win would push UIW to a 2-0 mark in league play.  De la Garza showed up and it all happened.
 
In the 15^th minute of action he scored an unassisted goal and that would prove to be the winner.  Then in the 83^rd minute de la Garza scored again for the insurance tally in the 2-0 victory.
 
On the day he had but three shots on goal from his midfield position, scoring twice.  He played the entire 90 minutes.  Those two goals and four points pushed him into second place in both categories for the Cardinals.
 
De la Garza is a senior from Mission’s Sharyland High School.  He is studying criminal justice at Incarnate Word.
