University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

ZARIAH NOYOLA
 
Incarnate Word’s track and field Cardinals were at the prestigious Cherry and Silver Invitational in New Mexico and Zariah Noyola returned home as the only winner for UIW.  She is the female athlete of the week for January 20 to January 26.
 
At the indoor meet Noyola showed her versatility by competing in the 800-meters and in the high jump.  While she didn’t finish among the leaders in either event she was just warming up for her featured race, the 400-meter hurdles.
 
Considered by some as one of the tougher events in track the 400-hurdles is a test of speed and stamina.  Noyola broke the tape in 1:07.90 for the victory.  That time also established a new UIW school record.
 
A junior from Harlingen’s South High School, Noyola is studying rehabilitative sciences at Incarnate Word.  She now is eligible for female athlete of the year when in May UIW coaches and athletic administrators vote for that award.
