ANTHONY HORTON
 
All he did to earn male athlete of the week at Incarnate Word was shoot lights out and lead the basketball team in scoring in both games.  Anthony Horton’s honor is for the time frame January 13 to January 19.
 
The Cardinals opened their Southland Conference schedule with a pair of home games, a win over Central Arkansas and a literal last second loss to Oral Roberts.  These were the first-ever D-I league games for UIW.
 
Horton against UCA shot 9-11 from the field and finished with 21 points.  Two days later he remained torrid shooting 8-10 from the field against ORU for 18 points.  For the week that shooting added up to 17 of 21 and an almost unheard of mark of .809.  That included 2-4 on three-pointers.  He also was 3-4 at the free throw line for .750.
 
His other contributions were 3.5 rebounds a game with 1.0 assists and 0.5 blocks.
 
Horton is a senior from Houston’s Clear Springs High School.  He is studying international business at UIW.  He now goes onto the ballot when in May Incarnate Word coaches and athletic administrators will select a male athlete of the year.
