Ramon Cato did a number on the UIW football record book over the weekend resulting in him being named male athlete of the week for September 22 to September 28.
 
He now will be on the ballot at year’s end when Incarnate Word coaches and athletic administrators select a male athlete of the year.
 
In the game against Southeastern Louisiana he punted eight times for 385 yards total.  Those were not school records.  But they were close.  However, his 48.1 yards a kick certainly is a new Cardinals mark for a team game surpassing the previous distance of 47.0 a boot.  Four of his eight punts were for 50 yards or more each.
 
Then, included among his eight kicks were distances of 73 and 67 yards and those are now the numbers one and two in the record book.  That 73-yard punt also is a new Benson Stadium mark.
 
On the day one of his punts was downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line while two were through the end zone for touchbacks.
 
Cato is a freshman from Houston Westfield High School.
