Women's Swimming Dominates Home Meet

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's swimming and diving team defeated visiting Southwestern University on Saturday at the Barshop Natatorium, 210-71. (Results)

The UIW women racked up 16 total victories encompassing every event of the meet.  Junior diver Kali Lents (San Antonio/Reagan HS) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events and set two school records in the process.  She scored 271.80 points in 1-meter to break her own 6-dive record in the event.  She came back with 283.73 points in the 3-meter to break her own school record again.  Teammates Kim Foster (Spring/Oak Ridge HS) and Emily Haddox (Cypress/Cypress Creek HS) took second and third, respectively in both events.

After the Cardinals won the 200-yard medley relay, Mikayla Felchak (Tomball/Tomball HS) won each of the next two events.  She touched first in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:06.55 and then won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.56.  Later in the meet, Felchak won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.29.

Celeste Morgen (San Antonio/Johnson HS) was another multiple event winner for the Cardinals.  She swam on both the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams at the beginning and end of the meet.  In between, she won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.26 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.11.

Lana Nguyen (Kiev, Ukraine) showed her versatility by swimming the butterfly leg on the 200 medley relay, winning the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.  She hit the wall in the freestyle in 53.48 and in 1:01.52 in the butterfly.

Other winners for the UIW women were Adrienne Morrow (Hot Springs, AR/Hot Springs HS) in the 100-yard backstroke, Claudia Bernier (Cedar Hill/Cedar Hill HS) in the 200-yard butterfly, Avery Heussner (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) in the 50-yard freestyle, Ashley Wayman (Universal City/Judson HS) in the 200-yard backstroke and Natalia Hernandez (N. Vancouver, BC/St. Thomas Aquinas HS) in the 400-yard individual medley.

The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday at home when they host University of Houston in a dual meet.
