SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word swimming and diving team opened their 2026-27 season at home against TCU on Saturday morning. The Cardinals came collected 12 event wins, with the Horned Frogs earning the team victory on both the men's and women's side.

UIW opened with a sweep of the 200 medley relay with the team of Kristin Schauss, Sofia Damjanova, Valeria Garza and Jada Ashford taking the win for the women in a time of 1:43.69. The men's team of Tristian Clark, Yassen El Sherrif, Hatem Elsayed and Domantas Trota out-touched TCU for the win in a time of 1:29.39.

In the 1000 freestyle, Elif Altintas placed third for the women in 11:16.62, while Max Linkins finished third for the men in 9:46.76. 

Gabriel Mederios had the first individual event win for the men in the 200 freestyle, touching in 1:41.61. Derek Montoya followed in third with a time of 1:43.15. 

The Cardinals swept the 200 butterfly, with Addy Wilson winning the women's event in 2:09.03 before Noah Judge took the men's event in 1:48.67. 

UIW claimed the top two spots in the 50 freestyle, with Jada Ashford taking first in 23.43 and Madeline Wollny finishing second in 23.94. Trota claimed the top spot for the men in a time of 20.82. Trota picked up his second individual win in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 45.18, while Ashford added a second-place finish in the women's 100 freestyle with a time of 52.27.

In the 100 backstroke, Bella Derby finished second for the women in 57.99, while Tristan Clark placed second for the men in 50.05. Caleb Rojas followed in third with a time of 51.59.

El Sherrif had his first event win in the 100 breaststroke with a 55.76. He added a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:04.06, while Yuta Koska claimed the event win in 2:02.34. Koska also placed second in the 200 IM in 1:54.31 to cap his first meet as Cardinal.

Elsayed added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly, touching in 49.13.

On the diving side, Abby Bellucci posted the highest score for the Cardinals on the women's side, scoring a 205.43 in the 1-meter competition and finishing fourth with a 215.78 in the 3-meter competition. 

Tristan Clark recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, posting times of 50.05 and 1:53.14, respectively. Linkins claimed the win in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:50.02.

The Cardinals closed with a win from the women in the 400 freestyle relay and a second-place finish from the men. The team of Ashford, Harmonee Freelon, Wollny and Kelechi Nwaeze took the top spot with a 3:31.03, while Trota, El Sherrif, Mederiros and Noah Juge put together a 3:02.89 for the second-place finish.

The Cardinals hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Dallas to face SMU and Oklahoma Christian in a tri-meet on Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.
