SAN ANTONIO—Sarea Alexander put 10 big points on the board for the women's team as she closed out the women's long jump with a stadium record-breaking leap of 6.54m/21-5.5 on day two of the Southland Conference outdoor championships. Her new record ranks her second on the NCAA West outdoor qualifying list and eighth in the nation.
Danielle Martinez posted a podium finish in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. Martinez checked in at 11:11.24 for a new PR and third place.
Adam Herrera finished second in the men's steeplechase with a twelve second PR and school record of 9:02.15.
Rodney Littlejohn and
Amiah Parson set the tone Saturday morning for the University of the Incarnate Word track and field teams. After five events, Littlejohn leads the men's decathlon with 2885 points. Parson sits sixth after four events in the women's heptathlon with 3024 points. The combined events are set to wrap up competition at Trinity University stadium beginning Sunday at 9 a.m.
LEADERS
Parson set collegiate best marks in the high jump (1.70m/5-7), shot put (9.22m/30-03) and 200m (26.02).
Madison Miles also bettered her marks in the 100H (15.84) and 200m (25.20) to earn 2927 points.
Kalia Hendrix crossed the line in 57.55 for a new PR in the women's 400m.
On the men's side, Littlejohn set personal bests in the 100m (10.98), long jump (6.95m/22-9.75), and shot put (10.75m/35-3.25). Littlejohn leads the combined events with a 114 point advantage over second place.
Joshua Zozaya scored the first point for the men's team in the pole vault. Zozaya finished eighth with a mark of 4.90m/16-0.75.
PJ Caseres cleared 4.75m/15-7 to set a collegiate best mark.
Isaac Cole rounded the track in 49.86 for a collegiate best time in the 400m.
UIW has several opportunities to score on the final day of the championships. In addition to the Cardinals scheduled to compete in Sunday's field event conclusions, the following student-athletes earned a spot in the running finals:

UP NEXT
The men's decathlon, women's shot put and men's discus are all slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Running events begin at 3 p.m. with the women's 4x100 relay. The men's 4x400 relay is set to close the meet at 6:35 p.m.
