The Incarnate Word men's track and field team walked away from this weekend's Charles Austin Classic at Texas State with a pair of first-place finishes, another handful of podium placements, and even more personal bests.
Notable Results:
- Anthony Zapata's personal-best 1:50.56 not only won the 800-meter run, but it set a new Incarnate Word record in the distance.
- Christian Castro-Cruz won the 1,500-meter event with a personal-best 3:50.73.
- Jake Grullon came in second in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 53.21 seconds.
- Ethan Malesich took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing the course in a time of 9:07.99, with Eric Pineda coming in third behind him with a personal-best 9:15.31.
- Jonah Ulbricht placed second in the pole vault, clearing 5.10 meters, a new personal-best for the senior.
- Alex Brown finished third in the hammer throw with his best attempt traveling 56.32 meters.
- Devin Gills took the bronze in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 21.49 seconds.
- The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Moreno, Toney, Robinson and Gills closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the event, with a time of 40.92 seconds.
The Cardinals head to Austin, TX next week for the Texas Relays, which run from Wednesday, April 1st through Saturday, April 4th.
