Men's Track and Field Decathletes Open Texas Relays

Three members of the Incarnate Word men's track and field team took on the first half of the decathlon to open the Texas Relays.

Gabriel Grebet got off to a great start, placing second in both the 100 meter dash and the long jump, with a time of 10.58 seconds and a distance of 7.35 meters, to take an early points lead on the field. He slid one spot to second after a 12th-place finish in shot put but kept pace with the field by posting a third-place finish in high jump in the fourth event of the day. Grebet closed out his day by finishing sixth in the 400-meter dash and holding fifth in the standings heading into day two.

Tommaso Franze sits in ninth in the decathlon heading into the second day of the Texas Relays. He ran the 100 meter dash in 11.20 seconds, placing 11th, then finished third with a 7.23-meter long jump. Franze placed 10th in both the shot put and the high jump, then closed with a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter dash to move up one spot on the leaderboard.

Mika Funck is holding down the 12th spot in the decathlon with half of the events to go. His best finish was second place in the shot put, with his best attempt traveling 13.86 meters.

The trio will look to make a push up the leaderboard as decathlon wraps up on Thursday while a number of Cardinals will take on a series of track and field events in day two of the Texas Relays.
