IRMA GARZA
At the recent track meet at Texas State University in San Marcos, Irma Garza ran a long, long way and for her efforts she is the Incarnate Word female athlete of the week for April 21 to April 27.
This is the second time for Garza to be athlete of the week. The first was six and one-half months ago when she was competing on the UIW cross country team. She will be on the ballot for female athlete of the year when Cardinals coaches and athletic administrators vote at the end of the academic year.
In the course of the day, running more than four miles, she posted two top three finishes.
In San Marcos she toed the line in the 1,500-meters, the metric mile event. She came home in second place in a time of 4:53.96.
She extended her distance in the 5,000-meters. This time she finished third in a time of 18:34.54.
Garza is a junior at UIW and she is studying rehabilitative sciences. She is a graduate of San Antonio’s St. Anthony High School.
