Jamari Gilbert had his first two career touchdowns this weekend against UTEP, which is why he is this week’s UIW Male Athlete of the Week. He will now be on the ballot for the UIW Male Athlete of the Year award that is voted on by UIW coaches and sports administration at the end of the year.

Gilbert scored his first ever touchdown as a Cardinal with four seconds left in the first half at UTEP. He received a pass from Trent Brittain down the right sideline and dove for a 34-yard touchdown. He scored again in the third quarter a misdirection play left him all alone on the left side of the field.  Gilbert ran unopposed for a 90-yard touchdown. This tied the school record for longest pass play.  He finished the game with four catches for 154 yards.

The red-shirt sophomore is from Baytown, TX and graduated from Lee High School.  He is studying business administration at UIW.
