SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball program has announced its schedule for the 2022-23 season. Head Coach
Dr. Carson Cunningham returns for his fifth season at the University.
To start their 2022-23 campaign, the Cardinals host the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Nov. 7. UIW looks forward to a challenging season as it faces opponents such as UNLV (Nov. 12) and Valparaiso (Nov. 19). To get ready for conference play, the Cardinals will take part in the UTSA Multi-team Event along with Dartmouth (Nov. 25) and Grambling State (Nov. 27). These games are scheduled to be at the UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio.
"This is an exciting slate," said Cunningham. "Opening at home versus a tough North Dakota team will tip matters off in an energized fashion. For our first road game, UNLV will provide a mighty challenge. From there, we'll play in all kinds of fun and challenging environments. By late December we should be ready to take on the competitive gauntlet that is the Southland Conference."
UIW returns two of its top scorers from last season,
Josh Morgan and
Charlie Yoder. Morgan, a junior this season, received Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in 2022 and was selected to the 2021- 2022 SLC Men's Basketball All-Academic first team. The Cardinals have also signed junior college graduate
Jonathan Cisse, as well as four incoming freshmen, to add some new talent for this upcoming season.
