Natchitoches, La. - The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost a low scoring battle with Northwestern State, 49-52, on Monday night.
Davion Bailey recorded a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Harold Woods was one rebound shy of a double-double himself with 11 points and nine rebounds.
It was a slow start for both teams with only one field goal going down by each in the first six minutes of play. Things picked up for a short stretch as
Love Bettis traded buckets with his former team, putting the Cardinals up 9-7.
Davion Bailey was the only player to score in double figures in the first half (10) and the Cardinals held a slight lead, 23-18, at the break.
Bailey opened the half with six straight points but the Demons scored 10 straight to keep within striking distance 29-28. Demons retook the lead with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game and didn't look back. That was until
Harold Woods drained a three, cutting the deficit to just one, 49-50. The Cardinals weren't able to score again and fell by a final of 49-54.
UIW will play its final two games at home, closing out the regular season against Lamar and UTRGV in the Nest.
