Men's Basketball Drops Game Against New Orleans

SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost to the New Orleans Privateers 64-78 on Monday night in San Antonio.

Davion Bailey led all scorers with 19 points and was nine of 10 from the free throw line. Tahj Staveskie hit four 3-pointers and scored a total of 16 points.

The first half was a game of runs. New Orleans was up first, with an early 18-5 run building their biggest lead of the half, 14, 29-15. UIW responded right away with a 10-0 run of their own cutting that lead to just four with 5:34 remaining.

These two squads shot a total of 35 free throws in the first 20 minutes of play. All of the Cardinals points in the final five came from the stripe, however it would just be three. The Privateers converted on eight in that same time frame to go along with the only field goal made by either team. The Cardinals went into the break tailing 28-39.

UIW was able to hang around thanks to Davion Bailey who passed his first half scoring total in just about five minutes of play with eight points right out of the locker room. Staveskie was also able to find his rhythm in the second half, recording 10 points in the half.

However, New Orleans shot 52 percent from the field and found themselves with 13 more shots from the free throw line, never allowing the Cardinals to cut the deficit to less than eight. UIW fell by a final score of 78-64.

The Cardinals will hit the road for their next two games with key post season seeding on the line with games against East Texas A&M and Northwestern State on the docket.
