SAN ANTONIO -- Following a record-breaking season that saw the University of the Incarnate Word football program's first Southland Conference title and first FCS Playoff berth, the Cardinals have signed 22 to their 2019 roster, announced Head Coach Eric Morris.

Independence CC
Appeared in seven games for Independence, accumulating 10 tackles and 1.5 sacks… recorded best statistical game at Highland CC, making six total tackles and recorded a sack for a 12-yard loss on the day.
 
Cherryvale HS
Played varsity for two seasons… put up serious numbers on both offense, as a tight end, and defense, as a defensive lineman… finished senior season 17 catches for 378 yards and eight touchdowns while recording 51 total tackles, five in the backfield, and three sacks… forced two fumbles and recovered one of them as a senior in just nine games played.

Jhase Edwards | 6'3" | 270 | OL | Houston, TX | Manvel
Started 12 games at right tackle for Manvel on the way to a 9-3 season record (7-1 in district play)… anchored an offensive line that allowed its team to rush for 237.6 yards and record 193.5 passing yards per game through senior season… the offense scored 94 touchdowns in 12 games behind the powerful blocking of Edwards.

Raymond Richardson | S | 6'1" | 160 | Houston, Texas | Jersey Village HS
Played on both sides of the ball in high school… started at quarterback on offense while occupying the defensive backfield on defense… as a QB, threw for 2,418 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior while rushing for 1,059 and 12 more scores on the ground… on defense, recorded one interception, returning it for a 37-yard gain… also returned kicks when called upon in high school, returning a kickoff for a touchdown during junior season.

Played in 10 games at Highland CC in 2018… registered 857 rushing yards (85.7 yards per game) and six touchdowns, all ranking fifth in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference as a sophomore… averaged 6.2 yards per rush, good for third in the league… had a season-best 211 rushing yards at Garden City CC on Oct. 20… recorded three 100+ yard outings in 2018… had a long rush of 71 yards, contributing to 153-yard performance against Coffeyville CC on Sept. 22… racked up 267 rushing yards through four contests in 2017… had a long rush of 66 yards as part of a 108-yard game against Dodge City on Aug. 24, 2017.
 
Wando High School
Played at Wando High School, racking up 709 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns in two seasons… had 674 rushing yards (74.9 yards per game) as a junior… recorded two 100+ yard games as a junior… contributed 842 all-purpose yards in two years, including 789 all-purpose yards as a junior.

The starting left tackle on a Vela team that went 12-0, 6-0 in district, before suffering their first loss of the season in the playoffs to Westlake… anchored an offensive line that allowed the Vela offense to gain 3,977 yards across the span of 13 games, including 1,503 rushing yards and 2,474 yards through the air… a first team All-District selection in each of his last two seasons… second team all-district as a sophomore.

Played at Churchill High School, racking up 557 receiving yards in three seasons… recorded 302 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a senior… averaged 43.1 yards per game… earned all-district first team as a wide receiver senior year… guided Churchill to the state quarterfinals in 2016.

Guided St. Pius to a 9-3 overall record with a 3-1 mark in district play as a senior… ranked No. 88 in the state of Texas… registered 1,295 receiving yards, averaging 14.1 yards per catch, in two seasons… recorded 2,755 all-purpose yards during junior and senior years… racked up 12 rushing touchdowns and 23 overall touchdowns in final two years of high school… had 1,081 rushing yards on 172 carries for 6.3 rushing yards per carry over two years of play… recorded 915 rushing yards (91.5 yards per game) and 462 receiving yards as a junior… registered 831 receiving yards (75.5 yards per game) and 166 rushing yards as a senior… selected the Overall Player of the Game following seven receptions for 107 yards and six pass breakups against Antonian Prep on Nov. 2.

Helped lead Argyle High School to a 13-1 mark and a perfect 6-0 record in district play… listed as a top-200 offensive lineman in the nation by MaxPreps and is ranked No. 20 in the state of Texas… named the Offensive Argyle Football Player of the Game by MaxPreps following the Sept. 28 contest against LHS… as a senior, was part of an offensive line that helped its quarterback lead the region with 3,242 passing yards (average of 249.4 yards per game)… blocking also helped quarterback to a region-high 42 touchdowns… helped block for the region's leading rusher, who accumulated 1,460 yards.

Mount Pleasant HS
Played as an offensive lineman at Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant, Texas, for four years… started on varsity for three years.

Appeared in nine games for Northeastern Oklahoma in freshman season… registered seven tackles on the defensive line, including a tackle in the backfield… made an impact on special teams by blocking a kick… in sophomore campaign, started all 12 games, recording an impressive 44 tackles and a sack… played a pivotal role in the heart of the defensive line, helping team win eight games, including an unblemished 6-0 record at home.
 
Davis HS
Played two seasons of varsity for Davis… recorded 58 total tackles, 45 coming into senior season… a menace in the backfield who recorded seven tackles for loss in senior year, resulting in 10 TFLs over high school career… put up four sacks senior year to go along with two forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and a pass broken up.
