NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word football team earned its second consecutive win in convincing fashion, beating Northwestern State 38-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Jalen Walthall exploded for 178 yards and two touchdowns and his QB,
EJ Colson threw for 262 yards.
Matt Kordas led the defense which did not allow a single touchdown on the day with nine total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
After the Cardinals forced a quick three-and-out, offense led by Walthall got to work quick. Jalen caught a 35-yard pass from Colson for the first, first down of the game, setting UIW up with great field position. The pair capped off the drive with a six-yard throw and catch for the first touchdown of the day.
The Demons responded with a field goal but it was all Cardinals after that. After Colson found Walthall two consecutive times down field, Carter rumbled through the trenches and into the endzone to extend the lead to 14-3, in the first quarter.
Fireworks continued in the second after Walt broke free for another touchdown, this time on a tunnel screen he took 46 yards to the house. The Cardinals wouldn't stop scoring there. On the final drive of the half UIW had several big plays starting with a 21-yard Walthall catch, followed up by a 26-yard Carter run, and finished off with when Kobe Dillion broke tackles all the way across the goal line for his first score at UIW, sending the Cardinals into the break up 28-3.
Roles were reversed on the first drive of the second half as UIW was stopped on fourth down. However, the Cardinal defense stood strong forcing yet another three-and-out. On the second play of the ensuing drive
Timothy Carter took it 68 yards for his second score of the game.
The scoring would come to an end when Will Farris converted a 48-yard field goal making it a 38-3 game. The relentless Cardinal defense once again kept NSU from putting points on the board down the stretch as UIW walked away with a 38-3 win.
