SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian University will renew their rivalry in women's basketball on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
The two schools are each in their second year as a member of the Southland Conference after making the move to NCAA Division I last year. Both schools were previously members of the Lone Star Conference.
The Cardinals (5-22, 2-14) will be attempting to snap a 12-game losing streak. They are averaging 57.5 points per game while shooting 38.6 percent from the field this year.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) is the team's leading scorer at 13.1 points per game.
Yvonne Maosa (Georgetown/Georgetown HS) is coming off a 24-point, 9-rebound performance at Lamar on Saturday and is averaging 9.3 points and team-high 7.2 rebounds per game.
The Wildcats (16-11, 8-8) had a five-game win streak snapped on Saturday at New Orleans. They are averaging 69.5 points per game and are pulling down 3.4 more rebounds per game than their opponents. Sydney Shelstead leads a balanced offensive attack with 13.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Suzzy Dimba fills the stat sheet with 11.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game and has compiled 75 a team high 75 assists, 46 blocks and 73 steals. They have five players averaging over 10 points per game.
The Wildcats won the first meeting between the two teams this year, 78-54 in Abilene on January 24. UIW freshman
Melina Merritt (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge HS) scored a season high 18 points off the bench while Dimba had 12 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, five steals and three blocks for ACU.
