University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

CELESTE MORGEN
 
Incarnate Word won a dual swimming and diving meet over the weekend and Celeste Morgen played a large part in the victory.  Thus she is the UIW female athlete of the week for the timeframe January 6 to January 12.
 
At the Barshop Natatorium event Morgen was a four-time winner.  In her individual events she dominated the breaststroke.  After finishing first in the 100-breast in 1:07.26 she touched ahead of the competitors in the 200 with a time of 2:27.11.
 
She played a role in two victories in relay events.  Opening the meet Morgen and her three teammates won the 200-medley race in 1:50.34.  She swam the second leg.  Then, to close out the meet, she led off the 200-freestyle relay and the Cardinals won in 1:41.99.
 
Morgen is a junior out of San Antonio’s Johnson High School.  She is studying nutrition and dietetics at UIW and now will be a candidate for the yearend female athlete of the year award selected by Incarnate Word coaches and athletic administrators.
