University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

DEVIN HAYWOOD
 
Devin Haywood was one of the leaders last weekend as the football Cardinals set down a goal of handing a shutout to Houston Baptist.  Haywood and his teammates came close allowing just a single field goal in their victory.  As a result he is the UIW male athlete of the week for October 21 to October 27.
 
His highlight came in the fourth quarter with the other team moving towards a score.  Haywood intercepted a pass at the UIW 11-yard line to put an end to that.  It was his first of the season and his eighth of his career which is a UIW school record.
 
Also Haywood recorded six tackles including two solo stops.  He broke up two passes thrown in his area of the secondary.
 
He is a senior safety from San Antonio’s Roosevelt High School.  At Incarnate Word he is studying physical therapy.
 
Now, at the end of this schoolyear, when UIW coaches and athletic administrators select a male athlete of the year Haywood’s name will be on the ballot.
