University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

The University of the Incarnate Word announced this week’s Male Athlete of the Week to be John Shull of the baseball team. Shull’s pitching boosted the Cardinals to their first Southland Conference win on the road this season.  He is now eligible for the UIW Male Athlete of the Year award that is voted on by UIW coaches and sports administration.
 
Shull pitched an incredible game against Houston Baptist this past Saturday. With the help of the defense, Shull kept HBU scoreless through eight innings.  He ran into trouble in the ninth, but got some help from the bullpen to get the win. He left the Cardinals up 3-1 with a runner on. Shull allowed two runs on seven hits. The Cardinals closed the game with a 3-2 victory.
 
Shull is a sophomore communication arts major from San Antonio’s Churchill High School.
