Jordan Hicks hoisted the Cardinals to victory this week against Texas A&M-Kingsville with two touchdowns that brought UIW from behind. For that reason, Hicks was named the male athlete of the week for the week of September 7 to Septermber 13. With this selection, Hicks will be entered into the pool of athletes that will get voted on to be the UIW Male Athlete of the Year. This award is voted on by the UIW coaches and the Athletic Administration.
The Cardinals were down 9-3 at halftime against the Javelinas. After a couple of missed opportunities, Hicks came up big with a 66 yard punt return for a touchdown. TAMUK scored a touchdown to reclaim the lead, but were not ready for Hicks to respond with a 14-yard reception that turned into the game winning touchdown with only five minutes left. He finished with five catches for 52 yards, 118 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. He was also named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Incarnate Word will be heading to Lake Charles, LA to play in the first Southland Conference game of the season against No. 23 McNeese State on Saturday at 6 PM.
