Mikaela Noriega took care of the defensive line this weekend and that is why she is the Incarnate Word female athlete of the week for August 24 to August 30.  This allows Noriega to be on the list for female athlete of the year which is voted on by the UIW coaches and Athletic administrators.

Incarnate Word was in Edinburg, TX for the inaugural UT Rio Grande Valley Tournament. They faced the host and the Bulldogs from South Carolina State University.

Noriega started in both games and played a team high 174 minutes. 107 minutes were played in the UTRGV game that went into overtime. She then collected the other 67 against SCSU. She was crucial to the defensive line that posted a pair of shutouts and only allowed one shot against South Carolina State.

Due to a collective team and strong individual effort, Noriega was selected to the UTRGV All-Tournament team.  The Helotes, TX native attended Brandeis High School and is now studying business administration.
