RAMON COTO

Competing for the UIW football team in the season’s opening game Ramon Coto was perfect in his place kicking efforts and as a result has been named the year’s first male athlete of the week.

Coto had two chances as a field goal kicker and he made good on both, one from 47 yards and the other from 49 which is now the second longest in school history.  Then, following the Cardinals lone touchdown he converted the extra point to finish the night with seven points.

In his first collegiate game, Coto also handled the punting chores with a 37.2 yard average on five kicks.  Then, he did the kick off duties averaging 64.2 yards on four kicks including two touchbacks.

Coto is a freshman from Houston’s Westfield High School.

Most weeks during the year a male athlete of the week is selected.  At the end of the spring semester all those named are on the ballot for male athlete of the year as selected by UIW coaches and athletic administrators.
