KYLE HITTLE
Kyle Hittle did something no one in recent memory has done. His feat on the basketball floor earned him Incarnate Word male athlete of the week for February 23 through March 1. This is the fourth time for Hittle to receive the weekly notice.
What he did was score 18 consecutive points against Houston Baptist.
Between the 13:59 mark to 5:48 in the second half he outscored HBU by himself, 18 to 9. And it was from all angles; layups, free throws, three-pointers, mid-rangers. His outburst turned a UIW seven-point lead into a margin of 16 and the game was essentially over.
That night he finished with 28, the third highest total in his career. And, he led the Cardinals with eight rebounds. He also had two steals.
In the week, he averaged 23.5 points leading UIW in scoring in both games. He shot .636 (14-22 from the field) and an identical .636 from beyond the arc (7-11). At the free throw line he was 12-15 for .750. In the two games he averaged 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Hittle is a 6-5 junior guard from New Braunfels. He is studying finance at Incarnate Word.
