AARON WARREN
Being relatively new to the Incarnate Word baseball starting lineup had a positive effect on Aaron Warren as he earned male athlete of the week honors for the period April 27 to May 3.
He now goes onto the year end ballot when UIW coaches and athletic administrators name a male athlete of the year.
The weekend, three-game series was against Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas. Warren was slotted in as the Cardinals leadoff hitter. And he did exactly what a first batter is supposed to do, get on base. Over the three games he came to the plate 16 times as UIW swept the series. In official at-bats he had nine safe hits in 12 tries. That is an average of .667.
Additionally, he drew four bases on balls. The hits and free passes combined to give him a mark of .813 in on-base percentage. Comparatively speaking, if a batter can manage an OBP in the neighborhood of .400 to .450 fans will talk.
For the weekend, he scored three times himself, he drove home one teammate, he had one double and one stolen base.
Warren is a senior outfielder from Schertz. He graduated from Wagner High School. He is a cultural studies major at UIW.
