University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

GENO ENCINA
 
He didn’t get a win out of the day but Geno Encina did everything else he was supposed to do and he is the Incarnate Word male athlete of the week for April 20 to April 26.
 
He is now on the list for when UIW coaches and athletic administrators select a male athlete of the year.
 
The Cardinals were at Lamar for a weekend Southland Conference baseball series.  Encina got the start on the hill for game one.
 
He pitched into the ninth inning having allowed just five hits with two bases on balls and 10 strikeouts.  The score was 0-0 at that point.  However a pair of UIW errors allowed Lamar to push across an unearned run to win the contest 1-0.
 
Those 10 strikeouts tied his career high.  Those eight scoreless innings dropped his team-leading earned run average to 2.22.
 
Encina is a junior right-handed pitcher.  He is from San Antonio and he is a product of Brandeis High School.  He is studying communication arts at UIW.
