Box Score AUSTIN - The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell against the University of Texas 123-51 on Nov. 3 at the Moody Center.
Two Cardinal players finished with double-digit points in
Destiny Whitaker (14) and
Gwendlyn McGrew (12) off the bench.
Brynn Lusby would fall short of scoring in double digits (9), yet all three would collect three rebounds. McGrew shot with an efficient clip from behind the arc–shooting 37% (3-8 3FG) off the bench, and Lusby's buckets came from the paint, shooting 60% and drilling four free throws.
The opening tipoff would find UT with the ball first, as the Cardinals shut down the Longhorns' first shot attempt.
Returning sophomore guard Lusby would lay one in for a score following a bounce pass from
Jorja Elliott inside the paint for the Cardinals' first point of the 2025-26 campaign.
UT would follow with a 27-point run, but the momentum would shift for the Cardinals as sophomore guard McGrew responded with a tough three over 6'6 Kyla Oldacre, fueling energy for UIW.
Junior guard
Destiny Whitaker drove into the paint and earned two tough free throws, drilling both while facing the electric UT student section. The first quarter would end 33-8.
Second quarter found the Cardinals creating more shot opportunities on an 11-point stretch in the first five minutes by pull-up jumpers from Whitaker and drives to the basket from
Morgan Borgstadt, completing the lay in for a tough and-1 bucket.
Lusby was efficient in the paint for the Cardinals in the first half, shooting 2-2 and snagging a block on defense. While being smothered in the paint by UT center Oldacre, Lusby throws up a prayer and banks in a tough layup falling right of the basket after a shove to help the Cards score 20 in the second quarter.
Although UIW was down 61-28 at halftime, the Cardinals held momentum against the No. 4 Longhorns, only allowing two free throws in the final five minutes of the second quarter and leaving them in a scoring drought for the final two minutes before half. The Cards would outscore them 9-0 in that span.
The third quarter continued the high energy with five minutes of 12 points for the Cards, as they kept UT on their toes with buckets from Whitaker and McGrew.
A quiet ending for the Cardinals occurred in the final moments of the third quarter, as they were down 97-41.
UIW continued to hustle on every possession in the fourth as the game concluded 123-51.
