SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is set for two home games at the McDermott Center this week. First, the Cardinals host Texas A&M University – Commerce on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. followed by Northwestern State University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
UIW
- The Cardinals' 6-5 Southland Conference record holds them at fourth in the current SLC standings.
- Last week, UIW split with a win over Houston Christian and a close 68-72 loss against Lamar.
- Leading scorer, Aliyah Collins put up a career-high 28-point performance against Lamar, while leading rebounder Destiny Terrell surpassed 500 career rebounds with nine at HCU.
- Collins is averaging 13.4 points per game with Nina De Leon Negron following with 10.3. De Leon litters the stat sheet, leading the team in assists (72) and steals (34) while claiming herself as the second-leading rebounder at only 5-foot-6.
TAMUC
- Sitting at No. 5 in the SLC standings, the Lions look to battle for the No. 4 spot on Thursday.
- Last week, the Lions finished an overtime, 84-78, win over New Orleans and fell 61-72 to Southeastern Louisiana.
- TAMUC is well balanced with four Lions averaging double-digit scoring. Mia Deck (15.0) leads the way while Mary Delgado (13.0), Jordan Newsome (12.4), and Ahmya Boyce (11.5) round out the scoring effort.
NSU
- The 5-7 Demons stop at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi before facing the Cardinals on Saturday.
- Jiselle Woodson (11.3), Sharna Ayres (10.7), and Karmelah Dean (10.3) lead Northwestern State in scoring.
- The Demons are on a two-game losing streak after falling to New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana last week.
