SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team hosts Nelson University for the home opener at the McDermott Convocation Center on Monday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m., then Texas Lutheran for an 11 a.m. tipoff on Thursday, Nov. 14 for Kids Day.
UIW
- The Cardinals started the season 0-2 with two tough Big 12 matchups on the road, falling to Texas Tech, 78-48, and No. 12 Baylor, 85-33.
- Junior guard Madison Cockrell who came across town from UTSA is the leading scorer with seven points per game.
- Graduate transfer Dorian Norris came to UIW from East Texas A&M University and leads the team in rebounds through the first two games with 3.5 per contest.
- Freshman Brynn Lusby shined against Baylor with 10 points to lead the Cardinal offense.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
- Nelson started the season 1-2, picking up a 78-48 victory over Webber International University in the home opener.
- The NAIA Nelson Lions, previously known as Southwestern Assemblies of God, were picked to finish sixth in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC).
- Two returning Lady Lions - Wendy Clemmons, and Kyla McMinn – earned NCCAA All-Central Region Honors last season.
- Forward Kate Miller is the leading scorer with 16 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per contest. She posted a double-double in the win over Webber International with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Texas Lutheran fell narrowly, 67-58, on Friday night against No. 24/25 Hardin-Simmons for an 0-1 overall record.
- The Division III Bulldogs were picked to finish third in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
- Head Coach Troy Patterson was named the SCAC Coach of the Year, his second honor in three seasons. The Bulldogs are coming off the fourth 20-win season in program history, finishing 20-6 with a 13-3 conference record.
- Four of the five All-SCAC honorees return for this season in Lauren Sansano, Kaillee Mulkey, Kayla Presley, and Davi'Yanna Jones.
