SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team returns to the McDermott Center on Thursday, Nov. 17 against the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. to face Texas Lutheran University (TLU).
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
- This is the first time the Cardinals and Bears have faced each other.
- UIW leads the series history, 2-0, over TLU following a 65-50 victory on Nov. 17, 2021.
UIW
- The Cardinals sit at the top of the Southland Conference standings for free throw percentage through the first two games, shooting 77 percent from the line (27-35).
- Yuliyana Valcheva is third in the conference for offensive boards with three per game. She averages seven total rebounds per game for the Cardinals.
- Freshman Aliyah Collins is the leading scorer for UIW, averaging 13.5 points per contest, while Destiny Terrell follows close behind with 11.
UNC
- The Bears are 2-1 to start the season, falling to UTRGV on Tuesday night (61-55).
- Three student-athletes are averaging double digits for UNC. Hannah Simental (18), Delaynie Byrne (12), and Averee Kleinhans (11) lead the team in scoring.
- Byrne, forward, is the leading rebounder with six per contest and has tallied five blocks through three games.
TLU
- The Bulldogs are 0-2 on the season, falling to Hardin-Simmons and McMurry. The team is set to play four games this week, finishing with the UIW matchup on Sunday.
- Lauren Sansanoo (7.5) and Kailee Mulkey (7) are the leading scorers for the Bulldogs. Mulkey adds six rebounds per contest.
- TLU was picked to finish third in the SCAC Preseason Poll.
