SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team hosts Texas Lutheran on Wednesday, November 17 at 6 p.m. for the first home game of the 2021-22 season. The Cardinals then travel to University of Texas at San Antonio on Sunday, November 21 for a 12 p.m. tipoff.
LAST TIME THEY MET
- The Cardinals and the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran last met on Dec. 20, 2014, where UIW won 62-41 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
- UIW played UTSA last season on Dec. 3, 2020. The Roadrunners won 69-63 to break the series tie and take the lead 2-1.
UIW
- Jaaucklyn Moore has led the Cardinals in scoring and rebounds through the first two games averaging 12 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game.
- Against New Mexico State University (NMSU), Moore recorded her first double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as well as setting a new career-high for rebounds.
- Destiny Jenkins set a new career high at New Mexico State as well with seven rebounds.
- In the NMSU loss, the Cardinals battled through nine lead changes until the Aggies took a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter. Starr Omozee finished with 11 points while Tiana Gardner and Destiny Terrell added eight points each.
TLU
- 2-1 on the season, the Bulldogs are on a two-game winning streak following a 79-76 win over McMurry and a 48-39 win over Concordia.
- Junior, Sydney Shaw is averaging 16.7 points per game and Freshman, Kailee Mulkey is contributing 14.3 points per game. In their home opener against Hardin-Simmons, Shaw recorded a career-high 22 points and seven rebounds.
- Last season, TLU made it to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Semifinals.
- This is the first season as head coach for Troy Patterson.
UTSA
- The Roadrunners are on a two-game losing streak after starting of the season with losses against Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian. UTSA will play Texas State before hosting the Cardinals.
- LaPraisjah Johnson is averaging 13 points per game for the Roadrunners.
- Head coach Karen Aston made her UTSA coaching debut this season with a career record of 285-146. Aston has 13 years of head coach experience as she comes from Charlotte, North Texas and Texas.
- The Roadrunners return eight players from last season along with nine newcomers.
