Cardinals look to sink Privateers in Saturday’s home showdown

SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team hosts the New Orleans Privateers at approximately 4:15 p.m. (CT) Saturday, at the conclusion of the women's game, which starts at 2 p.m (CT). 
 
"New Orleans was picked at the top of the league to start the year," Cardinals coach Carson Cunningham said. "The Privateers feature a strong post game and experienced guards. We are excited for the challenge and eager to play at home again, in league."
 
The Cardinals (3-11, 0-3 SLC) are looking for their first conference win of the season, while the Privateers (5-10, 1-4 SLC) earned their first league victory Wednesday at home against Central Arkansas.

The Cardinals trail the Privateers in head-to-head matchups, 3-4. 
 
CAN'T STOP KEASTON
Freshman guard Keaston Willis continues to impress in his debut campaign, scoring in double figures in nine out of the last 11 contests. During that stretch, he's averaging 14.1 points per game and has drilled 30 3-pointers. The Sulpher Springs product's 33 made threes on the season rank No. 7 in the SLC, and he's made at least one 3-pointer in each of the last eight games.
 
DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST
Freshman forward Vincent Miszkiewicz is No. 5 in the SLC in rebounds per game (7.4) and No. 10 in blocked shots per game (0.9).
 
NORWEGIAN NIGHTMARE 
In the Cardinals' most recent matchup against Northwestern State, freshman center Marcus Larsson tallied career highs in points (14) rebounds (9) and blocks (4). 
 
SCORING SURGE
UIW is averaging 73.6 points per game over its last five contests, the highest in any five-game stretch this season. 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
  • The Privateers are coming off an 86-78 win over Central Arkansas that put an end to their five-game losing streak. 
  • New Orleans has yet to win a game away from home, posting an 0-7 record on the road. 
  • Bryson Robinson leads the offensive charge for the Privateers, averaging a team-high 17 points per game, which also is good for third-most in the conference. The 6-4 senior is shooting 36.8 percent from three, which ranks third in the SLC.
  • Troy Green is the team's second-leading scorer at 13.6 points per game and is tied for first with 1.4 steals per game. 
  • Gerrale Gates leads the Privateers in rebounds, averaging 5.7 per game to go along with his 8.9 points per game.
  • The Privateers are an efficient shooting team, ranked third in the conference at 46.2 percent from the field and first in the conference in free-throw shooting at 78.2 percent.
  • New Orleans also has the third-best assist-to-turnover ratio in the SLC at 1.03.
