Softball Hosts Prairie View in Mid-Week DH

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – With just five home games remaining in the season, the University of Incarnate Word softball team is set to host Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 1 p.m. at Cardinals Field.

The Cardinals (15-29, 6-15) are currently 6-7 at home this season and they have a chance to match last season's home win total in Tuesday's doubleheader. This will be the third and fourth meeting between the two teams this season as UIW swept the doubleheader in Prairie View on March 16 by scores of 12-8 and 23-11.

Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) continues to lead the Cardinals in hitting with a .368 batting average and she also has 12 stolen bases on the year. In the last ten games, Shelbi Swenson (Elgin/Elgin HS) has heated up at the plate with a .320 batting average and three RBI's.  The team is hitting .262 and scoring 3.3 runs per game.

In her last 14.1 innings, Bridget Stein (Brenham/Brenham HS) has an earned run average of 2.93 and opponents are batting .283 off the UIW right-hander.  Sarah Leal (Kyle/Hays HS) is also having a good season with a 4.13 ERA in 81.1 innings and she also has four complete games in 10 starts. Against non-conference opponents this season, the Cardinals have a team ERA of 6.24 and opponents are batting .367 off Cardinal pitching.

Prairie View A&M (9-22, 6-9) enters Tuesday's doubleheader on a five game losing streak and the team is 3-12 on the road this season.  The Panthers are averaging 4.8 runs per game and the team has a .362 on base percentage to go along with a .403 slugging percentage for the season.  A player to keep an eye on at the plate for Prairie View will be Briana Knowles who is batting .369 with three homeruns and 18 RBI's. Daneisha Hinton is hitting .341 for the season and she has 12 RBI's while Laurisa Hernandez leads the team with 25 RBI's.

Monica Cartwright leads the Panther pitching staff with a 4-3 record and a 5.52 ERA in 44.0 innings. In six starts, Cartwright has three complete games and opponents are hitting .358 off her. Ashley Higgins will also likely get an opportunity in the pitching circle as she leads the team with 11 starts. She has a 3-8 record for the season with a 5.64 ERA in 67.0 innings. The Prairie View staff has a team ERA of 7.71 and opponents are hitting .349 off Panther pitching.
