Altamirano and Robledo Lead Cardinals to Victory in Southland Tournament

HAMMOND, LA. – The fourth-seeded Incarnate Word softball team avoided elimination in the 2026 Southland Conference Softball Championship on Friday morning with a dominant 9-0 win in just five innings over No. 8 seed Texas A&M - Corpus Christi from North Oak Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first inning, Incarnate Word made its mark on the scoreboard with five runs in the second inning to build a 5-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Prisais Quintero drove in the game's first run with an RBI single before senior Victoria Altamirano belted a grand slam to deep right center for her 22nd long ball of the year.
  • The Cardinals added to their lead with two runs in the third inning, including an RBI single from junior Ayla Gonzales before scoring two more runs in the fourth. Quintero drove in her second run of the day with an RBI single in the frame.
NOTES
  • Sophomore Jenny Robledo (6-4) shut down the Islander offense, allowing just two hits with four strikeouts in a complete game shutout.
  • Altamirano had four RBI in the win, while Quintero was a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI of her own.
  • Senior Madison Dorrow was also 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk, and Gonzales and junior Sydney Zenon were both 2-for-3. Zenon added a double and three runs scored to the box score for Incarnate Word. 
UP NEXT
Incarnate Word continues on in the postseason with a must-win game tomorrow against the losing team in a contest between No. 1 seed Southeastern and No. 5 Lamar. 

Due to inclement weather in the area this afternoon, Southeastern and Lamar will play tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. before Incarnate Word takes the field at 2:00 p.m. If the Cardinals are victorious, they will play again 30 minutes after the conclusion of their first game of the day against the winner of the matchup between Southeastern and Lamar.
