SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will try to snap a seven game losing streak on Friday when they open up a three game Southland Conference series against visiting Stephen F. Austin. They will play a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Friday and a single game on Saturday at noon at Cardinals Field.
The Cardinals (14-27, 5-13) are hitting .268 as a team and average 3.4 runs per contest.
Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) has been the top hitter on the team with a .377 batting average, 18 runs and 10 stolen bases.
Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) provides the pop in the lineup with six homers and 26 runs batted in.
Mikaela Flores (Lockhart/Lockhart HS) and
Natali Duron (Pasadena/Memorial HS) have been tough outs this year hitting .328 and .330, respectively.
Bridget Stein (Brenham/Brenham HS) and
Sarah Leal (Kyle/Hays HS) are the top two pitchers for the Cardinals. Stein is 6-7 with a 4.34 earned run average in 82.1 innings. Leal is 4-9 with a 4.44 ERA in 75.2 innings to go with a team high 43 strikeouts.
The LadyJacks (19-22, 8-9) enter this week's series on a two game losing streak. Last season, the LadyJacks swept the Cardinals in a three game series at home.
Stephen F. Austin is 6-6 on the road and they are averaging 4.0 runs per game. The LadyJacks are batting .255 as a team and they have an on base percentage of .340. Brittany Lewis leads the team in almost every major offensive category with a .352 batting average and eight homeruns to go along with 41 RBI's. Taylor Fraccastoro is also having a good season with a .322 batting average and 23 RBI's.
The Ladyjacks pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.33 and they are led by Makayla Sikes who is 5-9 with a 2.68 ERA in 81.0 innings. Sikes has nine complete games in 12 starts while Callee Guffey leads the team in wins with a 7-4 record in 12 starts. Guffey has a 2.84 ERA in 81.1 innings and she has seven complete games.
