SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word softball team is set to take on cross-town rival UTSA in a midweek game on Wednesday starting at 5:00 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
This season, UIW has struggled on the road with a 5-14 record away from Cardinals Field. The team is averaging 3.4 runs per game and they are batting .270 as a team with a .364 slugging percentage.
Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) is leading the Cardinals with a .385 batting average and she currently has a season long nine game hitting streak.
Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) leads the team with six homeruns and 26 RBI's.
The Cardinals pitching staff is led by
Bridget Stein (Brenham/Brenham HS) who is 6-7 on the season with a 4.54 earned run average in 80.2 innings.
Sarah Leal (Kyle/Hays HS) is also having a good year for UIW and she is 4-8 with a 4.12 ERA in 71.1 innings pitched. The Cardinals have a team ERA of 5.36 and opponents are hitting .353 off UIW pitching.
The UTSA Roadrunners (17-27, 9-9) enter Wednesday's matchup against the Cardinals with a 3-2 record in their last five games. So far this season, the Roadrunners are 3-5 against Southland Conference opponents.
The Roadrunners have a 10-8 home record and they are averaging 3.4 runs per game. As a team, UTSA is batting .253 and they have a .391 slugging percentage. Kendall Burton will be a player to keep an eye on for the Roadrunners as she is batting .306 with two homeruns and 12 RBI's. Randee Crawford supplies the power for the Roadrunners and she has hit a team high 12 homeruns for the season to go along with 23 RBI's.
