SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – After a rain out to their mid-week game, the University of the Incarnate Word softball team is at home for a three-game series against Southland Conference rival Houston Baptist University this weekend. They will play a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. and a single game at noon on Saturday.
The Cardinals (11-20, 2-7) will try to get back on track in conference play after opening the schedule by taking 2-of-3 against Northwestern State. The team is hitting .262 and average 3.5 runs per game.
Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) has been the team's most productive hitter this year. She is hitting .309 with a team high six home runs and 24 RBI's.
Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) leads the team with a .356 batting average, 14 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
The UIW pitching staff is led by
Sarah Leal (Kyle/Hays HS) and
Bridget Stein (Brenham/Brenham HS). Leal is 3-6 with a 3.84 earned run average and 33 strikeouts in 54.2 innings. Stein is 5-6 with a 4.26 ERA in 65.2 innings of work.
The Huskies (10-16, 2-7) swept the season series from the Cardinals last year. They are hitting .258 as a team and average 3.5 runs per game. Savana Guidry is hitting .348 with 14 runs and 10 stolen bases while Shay Orsak has a .329 average. Demi Janak has driven in a team high 13 runs. Laci Belovsky and Shannon O'Connor have been the team's main pitchers. Belovsky is 6-9 with a 4.78 ERA and 10 complete games in 92.1 innings while O'Connor is 2-6 with a 6.95 ERA in 48.1 innings.
