SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word softball team is set to take on Texas State University in a mid-week matchup on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Bobcats Softball Stadium.
The Cardinals (10-17) enter Wednesday's game on a three game losing streak after Southeastern Louisiana swept UIW last weekend. In the three games, the Cardinals offense struggled and they were only able to produce two runs the entire series.
At the plate, UIW is batting .276 with a .382 slugging percentage.
Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) currently leads the Cardinals with a .410 batting average, 12 runs and seven stolen bases.
Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) is batting .306 and she leads the team with four home runs and 18 RBI's.
Mikaela Flores (Lockhart/Lockhart HS) has also been productive over the last five games going 8-for-17 with four runs scored and four RBI's to go along with two home runs.
Sarah Leal (Kyle/Hays HS) and
Bridget Stein (Brenham/Brenham HS) have pitched well as of late for the Cardinals. Stein leads the team with a 4-4 record in 51.2 innings and Leal is 3-5 with a 3.89 ERA in 45.0 innings.
The Texas State Bobcats enter Wednesday's matchup with a 21-9 record. The Bobcats have impressive wins this season over Oklahoma State, #24 Texas, Purdue, and South Florida. The team is 7-3 at home and the Bobcats are coming off a 4-1 victory against Georgia State. Texas State has a 6-1 record over Southland opponents this season.
As a team, the Bobcats are hitting .248 and scoring 4.4 runs per game. Kelli Baker leads the team with a .355 batting average and 21 runs. Ariel Ortiz is second on the team with a .337 batting average and she is tied with three players for the team lead in RBI's with 19. The Bobcats will feature Randi Rupp in the pitching circle and she is 15-5 with a 1.61 ERA in 113.0 innings while she also has nine complete games in 19 starts.
