SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will come back home after a three-game road trip. They host University of Central Arkansas on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (6-16, 3-8) have played some close games in Southland Conference play and will face a very tough opponent in Central Arkansas, who just had a nine-game winning streak snapped with a 60-56 loss to Northwestern on Wednesday. UIW averages 57.5 points per game and is shooting 37.9 percent from the field. They shoot 28.5 percent from beyond the arc and 70.4 percent from the free throw line.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) and
Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) lead the team in scoring with 12.9 and 12.3 points per game, respectively.
Yvonne Maosa (Arlington/Mansfield HS) has stepped up in conference play averaging 12.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
UIW's opponent, Central Arkansas, ranks second in the Southland Conference and is 7-1 on the road. The Sugar Bears (19-3, 9-2) average 63.4 points per game, but it's their defense that has led them to success this year. They have the best defense in the conference and second in the nation, only behind UConn, as they only allow 49.5 points per game. The offense is shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.2 percent from the charity stripe. Maggie Proffitt leads the team with 14.8 points per game.
The game will be broadcast online at portal.stretchinternet.com/uiw and TSRNsports.com will host the audio broadcast with Greg Sherman on the call.
